Cost of content management system (CMS) varies depending on the CMS you choose. There are many different systems available. They can be generally divided into 2 kinds: Commercial and Open Source.
Commercial CMS are expensive and mainly used for big projects by big companies. Commercial CMS is licensed by a company who created it, so it isn’t free to copy and redistribute. The prices vary from couple of thousands to tens of thousands pounds.
Open Source CMS is available to everybody to download and free for distribution (under any label). So it suitable for commercial projects.
If you are small or medium business, there is no need to pay for Commercial CMS at all! Technologically, a Commercial CMS is no better than an Open Source one. Differences between them are worth consideration only if you are an executive of a big company and your web project is very complex. However, even then, you might find an Open Source CMS a better solution.
The most popular Open Source CMS are Word Press, Joomla, Drupal or CMS Made Simple, but there are hundreds of others as well.
Beetle on the Web choose WordPress, which is the world’s most popular website publishing and developing platform. Currently, 12% of all the websites globally are developed on Word Press.
The Cost of Open Source Content Management System
Even though, Open Source CMS like Word Press is free, you still need to pay to your web designer for:
- designing and building your website template,
- integrating this template with a CMS,
- and for additional works involved in lauching your website.
The only way to avoid this cost is to build a website yourself, which obviously you can do, because there is a lot of information available online how to do so.
